Organic Lip Balm
A friend of mine and I decided to make some lovely, organic lip balm and let me tell you, it is amazing. I have a bunch of organic lip balms but they are not quite as good as this recipe. I have to say that I love the thickness and long-lasting feel on the lips of this product but you might have to play around with the quantity of essential oil drops to your liking.
In Ayurveda, when we experience dryness internally or externally, this means that our wind energy or vata, is out of balance. To balance dryness you need moisture. If you have dry skin or cracked lips the best remedy is to do a regular oil massage 3 times per week or abhyanga. A good, basic oil is unrefined, organic sesame oil.
Organic Lavender & Vanilla Lip Balm
3 Tablespoons coconut oil
3 Tablespoons shea butter
2 Tablespoons beeswax
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
40 drops lavender essential oil
lavender buds
About 26 small containers
Fill a small pot with water (about 11/2 inches) on low-medium heat. Place a pot on top so that it acts as a double boiler. Place coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax in the pot and melt, stirring occasionally. Once everything is combined you can add vanilla and essential oil. Fill your capsules with a few lavender buds.
For distributing this mixture into capsules or little containers I suggest using a pot that has a lip so you can pour slowly. Alternatively, you can use an eye dropper, but we found that the eye dropper won't be reusable as the beeswax sticks to the inside.
You want to work rather quickly to pour the contents into the containers of choice. If your mixture gets solid, just put it over a flame to liquefy it and continue to fill your containers.
